Tips For Diamond Grinding Bridge Decks
The introduction of diamond-grinding surfaces on bridge decks has created some challenges, however, that can be easily overcome following a few simple tips. Ensure tight line and grade controls when paving, add additional concrete thickness, check your steel, control your slump, slow down, know your deck and walk-behind and short wheel base grinders should not be used.

Transportation Noise and Concrete Pavements: Using quiet concrete pavements as the noise solution
Diamond ground surfaces are the solution of choice for producing quiet concrete pavements. For highways, noise mitigation is concerned with protecting the surrounding properties from excess levels of noise. This can be accomplished by three different methods: (1) distance, (2) installation of berms or walls, or (3) controlling the noise source.

Use of Silanes for Sealing Joints in Concrete Pavements
Seal/No Seal (SNS) Tech Brief: The two most common reactive sealers are siloxanes and silanes. Silanes are functional monomeric Compounds with four chemical attachments. These tend to have a low viscosity facilitating penetration into the concrete and quicker chemical reactions.

Next Generation Concrete Surface (NGCS): Valuable Alternative to Noise Walls
In 2019, the Minnesota DOT (MNDOT) announced a project to reconstruct and expand both directions of I-94 between TH25 in Monticello and TH24 in Clearwater, approximately 35 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The standard mitigation technique requires the construction of expensive noise walls. However, the geography of the site and the proximity of the lake to the roadway made the construction of noise walls exceedingly difficult. In response to this challenge, HcPCi provided data showing that using next generation concrete surface (NGCS) would provide noise reduction meeting MnDOT’s mitigation requirements.

Noise Abatement and Performance Evaluation of a Next Generation Diamond Grinding Test Section
This research project compared the performance of a 0.68-mile long continuously reinforced concrete pavement test section before and after receiving next-generation diamond grinding (NGDG). The test section was transversely tined and located on Loop 610 in Harris County, Houston, Texas. The NGDG surface significantly improved the skid resistance as well as the ride quality of the test section analyzed.
